Virginia-Style Screw-Tip Powder Horn
This large horn took a Blue Ribbon in its category and Best of Show at the 2025 Annual Horn Guild Meeting in Altoona, Pennsylvania.
It measures 17” overall along the outside curve and is approximately 2½” wide across the base. The removable screw tip was turned from deer antler and black cow horn. The horn features a graceful double curve.
The front strap attachment is an iron staple, clinched over inside the horn spout.
The finely turned cherry base plug is highly chip-carved in the Moravian style and stained using a period lye method. It is secured with square-cut finishing nails and hollowed on the interior to reduce weight and increase capacity.
